“Holiday in Rwanda”

Feature Documentary

Mention Rwanda to most travelers, and one thing comes to mind: genocide.  Not romantic getaways and luxury vacation packages.  Yet recently, the Rwandan government has made the revival of its tourism trade its highest economic priority.  Commissioned by GQ magazine to write an article on the subject of vacationing in Rwanda, writer Jay Kirk teams up with filmmaker Darren Mann for a three-week holiday in Rwanda.  From 500lb gorillas to golf...yes golf, "Holiday in Rwanda" takes an offbeat look at the country’s plans for mass tourism through the eyes of two Americans who, quite frankly, didn’t know what to expect.  Through interviews with hi-profile celebrities and everyday tourists, government figures and Rwandan farmers, “Holiday in Rwanda” examines the tourism trade in a most unlikely locale.  The result is an enlightening, endearing and sometimes humorous look at a tiny African nation on the rise, one whose people put on a happy face for outsiders, while so many ghosts still linger on every newly paved street and under every pillow mint.

- A portion of the proceeds from the film will go to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International to help preserve the endangered mountain gorilla.
